19 Books Becoming Movies in 2018


We love learning which books are becoming movies in the near future. Hearing about upcoming film adaptations encourages us to catch up on our reading so we can do comparisons when the film comes out. What we love most about book to film adaptations is how they enable us to keep a book discussion going on well after the title has fallen off the bestseller list.

If you’re like us and love watching films that are based on books, you’ll be very interested in today’s list of books becoming movies in 2018. You have plenty of time to read them all before they come out!

1. Anthem of a Reluctant Prophet

by Joanne Proulx


The film adaptation of Anthem of a Reluctant Prophet is currently in pre-production. It’s set to star Cameron Monaghan. The release date is currently listed as January 12, 2018.

2. Maze Runner: The Death Cure

by James Dashner


The third installment of James Dashner’s popular dystopian series is set to hit the screen on January 12, 2018.

3. Fifty Shades: Freed

by EL James


The final installment in the Fifty Shades trilogy will once again star Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. The release date as of this writing is February 9, 2018

4. Meg

by Steve Alten


Steve Alten‘s novel about a prehistoric shark will star Ruby Rose and Jason Statham. Expect to see it in the theaters on March 2, 2018.

5. Peter Rabbit

by Beatrix Potter


Beatrix Potter’s 1902 classic children’s novel is scheduled for release on March 23, 2018. Daisey Ridley, Rose Byrne, and Domhnall Gleeson are slated to star.


6. Ready Player One

by Ernest Cline


Ready Player One was originally due for release in 2017.  The new release date is March 30, 2018. Ben Mendohlson and Simon Pegg star.

7. Hunting Christ

by Ken Policard



As of this writing, Hunting Christ is scheduled for release on March 30, 2018. No word yet on which actors have signed on to star.

8. The Invisible Man

by H.G. Wells



Expect to see The Invisible Man in the theaters on April 13, 2018. Johnny Depp will star.

9. Bluebeard

by Kurt Vonnegut



As of this writing, Bluebeard is scheduled for release on October 29, 2018. No word yet as to who will star.


10. All the Bright Places

Originally scheduled for release last year, All the Bright Places will star Elle Fanning and is currently scheduled for release in 2018.

11. Chaos Walking

by Patrick Ness


Patrick Ness’ dystopian series comes to life with Chaos Walking. Due to be released in 2018, it’s set to star Daisy Ridley.

12. I Heard You Paint Houses

by Charles Brandt


Currently scheduled for release in 2018 as The Irishman, this book to film adaptation will star Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Bobby Carnivale, and Harvey Keitel

13. Witness for the Prosecution

by Agatha Christie


Scheduled for Release in 2018, Witness for the Prosecution is to star Ben Affleck.

14. The Three Christs of Ypsilanti

by Milton Rokeach


The film version of The Three Christs of Ypsilanti is currently scheduled to hit the screens in 2018. Peter Dinklage and Julianna Marguiles will star.

15. Ophelia

Ophelia is currently scheduled to be released in 2018. Scheduled to star are the very busy Daisy Ridley  and Naomi Watts.

As of this writing, The Lost Wife is currently due for release in 2018. Daisy Ridley, who will be having a hell of a year apparently, is scheduled to star.

17. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

by Annie Barrows


As of this writing, the title of the film is shortened to “Guernsey.” Currently due to hit screens in 2018, it will star Downton Abbey‘s Lily James

18. A Wrinkle in Time

by Madeleine L’Engle


The eagerly-anticipated film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time is currently scheduled for release in 2018. Scheduled to Star are Chris Pine, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Reese Witherspoon

19. Mr. Mercedes

by Stephen King


Not a movie for the big screen, Mr. Mercedes is being developed for a TV series due to come out in 2018. Brendan Gleeson is set to star as of this writing.
