Books Becoming Movies in 2017

1. A Monster Calls

Starring Sigourney Weaver and Lewis MacDougall, A Monster Calls hits the silver screen on January 6, 2017.

2. Hidden Figures

by Margot Lee Shetterley


Based on a true story, Hidden Figures is being released January 6, 2017 and starts Taraji P.Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monae.

 3. The Bronx Bull

by Chris Anderson, Sharon McGehee, and Jake LaMotta


This sequel to Raging Bull stars Tom Sizemore, William Forsythe, and  Joe Mantegna. It’s being released on January 6, 2017.

 4. Live By Night

Dennis Lehane

The film adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s novel is coming to the screen on January 13, 2017, and will star Ben Affleck, Elle Fanning, and Brendan Gleeson.

The film adaptation of Same Kind of Different as Me is coming to theaters on February 3, 2017. It stars Renee Zellweger, Jon Voigt, and Djimon Hounsou.

7. Fifty Shades: Darker

The dismal reviews from the first 50 Shades movie didn’t cause much of a pause. The sequel to the first book in the kinky series has a release date of February 10, 2017.

8. The Zookeepers Wife

Scheduled for release on March 31, 2017, The Zookeeper’s Wife stars Jessica Chastain and Daniel Bruhl.

9. Wonder

Wonder is coming to theaters on April 7, 2017 and stars Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson. UPDATE 4/2017 – Release for this film has been pushed back to November 2017.

10. The Lost City of Z

The Lost City of Z is being released to the public on April 21, 2017. It stars Tom Holland, Charlie Hunnam, and Sienna Miller.

11. The Circle

The Circle stars Tom Hanks and Emma Watson. Expect to see it in theaters on April 28, 2017.

12. Break My Heart 1000 Times

Break My Heart 1000 Times

This supernatural thriller will star Bella Thorne. It currently lists a May 4, 2017 release date.

13. The Dinner

by Herman Koch


Richard Gere and Laura Linney star in the film adaptation of The Dinner. Expect to see it in theaters on May 5, 2017.

14. Captain Underpants

The Adventures of Captain Underpants

The release date for Captain Underpants is currently listed as June 2, 2017.

15. My Cousin Rachel

My Cousin Rachel is due for release on July 14, 2017. It stars Rachel Weisz and Sam Clafin.

 16. The Dark Tower

Stephen King fans rejoice! The epic tale of The Last Gunslinger, Roland of Gilead, is finally making it to film. Currently in production, The Dark Tower is finally hitting the screen on July 28, 2017.

The graphic novel is coming to life in theaters on July 21, 2017.

18. The Mountain Between Us

Charles Martin’s book about a couple (who aren’t a couple) surviving on a mountain after a plane crash is currently in development and set to be released on October 20, 2017.

The expected release date for Red Sparrow is November 10, 2017. It stars Jennifer Lawrence, Joel Edgerton, and Jeremy Irons.

20. Murder on the Orient Express

by Agatha Christie


Agatha Christie’s classic mystery novel is going to hit the theaters in time for the holidays on November 22, 2016. It stars Daisy Ridley, Johnny Depp, and Penelope Cruz.

21. A Century of November

A Century of November

The film adaptation of W. D. Wetherell’s award-winning book is in production and currently scheduled for release in November 2017.

22. Lundon’s Bridge: and the Three Keys

Not even sure why I added this to the list. Everyone knows that “World War Z 2,” again starring Brad Pitt, won’t even resemble the book – which we feel is one of the best zombie books ever written. Currently World War Z 2 is set to be released in 2017, but that’s all we have for you as of January 2017.

William Gay’s novel is currently scheduled for released in 2017. As of this writer the film will star James Franco, Josh Hartnett, Josh Hutcherson, Ashton Kutcher, Timothy Hutton and Courtney Love.

Tom Clancy’s novel about the Third Echelon is currently listed as “in development” and is scheduled to make it to the big screen in 2017.

Currently in development. IMDB lists an unspecified release date sometime in 2017.
